Mesquite, TX

Mesquite is one of the biggest cities in the state of Texas. Located east of Dallas, Mesquite is centered at the crossroads of U.S. Route 80 and Interstate 30, 635 and 20, making the area easily accessible. Mesquite has a large population as it is home to 150,108 residents as of the 2020 census, and is home to large corporations, including UPS, AT&T, FedEx and more! With so much to do within the city and its ideal location, there is nowhere else we’d rather live!

Before Mesquite was settled, the area was an open prairie land and the Caddo Indians were the native farms of the land. The City of Mesquite was officially founded on March 14, 1878, after the Mesquite Creek and was officially incorporated in December of 1887 with the election of Mayor Russell. In the city’s early years, it was known for outlaws residing in the area, with the most prominent being Sam Bass, who committed train robberies in Texas. In 1946, the Mesquite Rodeo was founded and is one of the only rodeos with a permanent location, earning the city the title of the “Rodeo Capital of Texas.”

When you visit Mesquite, Texas, there are some things you absolutely have to do. For starters, you must visit the Mesquite Rodeo! This rodeo operates spring through fall and is the second-most televised rodeo in the world. Many of your favorite diplomats have visited the rodeo as well, including former presidents Reagan and Bush and Prince Rainier III of Monaco. If you aren’t one to enjoy a rodeo, the Mesquite Art Center is a wonderful place to enjoy local culture. In the center, you can enjoy a variety of performances and exhibits year-round!
